The only thing that liked was how the author bring these characters against each other. But then he fails in creating something out of the line. There were hardly any distractions from plot's point of view.
Even if they were, the characters would jump back in their scheduled or say drawn path. The lady antagonist didn't induce any fear in me. In fact she never felt like a person. In first half, she hardly talks, and when eventually she does in the climax, it's all childish bullshit.
And what annoy me more than everything is the romantic spark between two major characters. In fact it is developed so badly and swiftly over the course that you just can't take it.
Seems like the protagonist, the antagonist and the author had no subplots, because story is already planned, a trip that is already successful before it's been enjoyed. View all 8 comments. May 27, Donna rated it really liked it Shelves: crime-mystery. I steer clear of books rated below 3.
I tend to trust the masses. So when I saw this book by one of my faves and it had a lower rating than I like, I was intrigued to give it a go. I can't say I was too surprised when this started out as a solid 1 star and all I could think was, "How am I going to give one of my favorite authors a 1 star rating? I love how his mind works and how he translates that on to a page. I enjoy the characters that I steer clear of books rated below 3. I enjoy the characters that he creates. They are vivid and full of life. I also like the way the plot often shifts and it does so unexpectedly. Okay, some of this was predictable, but I don't have qualms over that when I like the characters.
In some way, the predictability draws me closer to them. View 1 comment. It was a good bang for a buck. Entertaining, interesting, and compellingly readable. I learned a good bit about the art-world and its collectors. Of which, can be competitively manic and cutthroat. And I thought the cat-n-mouse plot, though somewhat fancifully imagined, was quite globetrotting exciting.
